I also watched last night's speech. I thought he did a very good job of clarifying some key points that have been misinterpreted by the media. I also think 2 other issues President Obama could have addressed to clarify some concerns people have are:
How providers are affected by a change in their client's insurance coverage. For example, will this put more restrictions on the time they spend with patients or will this result in insurance companies restricting tests and services providers order to cover the potential loss in revenue for insurance companies? (Maybe this is too specific and will be discussed in a later speech)
I had a friend bring this up while watching the speech...If illegal immigrants will not have coverage, what will that mean for safety net providers? How will their funding/resources be affected? Will this continue to perpetuate overuse of ERs? This is a sector that will be greatly affected, especially if more services are used, including preventive screenings as part of the President's proposal, in addition to funding streams and how those will be affected. (This too may be discussed later, I hope)
